why writing and blogging is important
Some articles about why people write/blog.
Putting some links here so future me can come back to them later.
"Writing is a form of thinking. It's basically just a dictation of an internal monologue, with some tweaks here and there for clarity. It's a useful tool to think about, explore, and organise otherwise disparate ideas and thoughts. By writing about things I find important to me, I hope to better understand the ideas I have and/or come across, with the intent to better understand them or integrate them into my life." - jamesphilbrick
"When I’m obsessed about some topic, I feel like the same small set of thoughts keeps circling around in my mind. If I write them down, I trust that the physical medium (blog, etc) will preserve my valuable ideas, then I feel safe to move on to new thoughts and eventually forget the old ones. This would seem to suggest that despite the effort it takes to write something well, I would be worse off if I didn’t write and just kept things in my head." - nayuki
"First, clarity. I’m sure you know the quote “Writing is nature’s way of letting you know how sloppy your thinking is”1, and knowing how sloppy your thinking is allows you to sharpen it, test your arguments, and test different explanations. I find, more often than not, that I understand something much less well when I sit down to write about it than when I’m thinking about it in the shower. In fact, I find that I change my own mind on things a lot when I try write them down. It really is a powerful tool for finding clarity in your own mind. Once you have clarity in your own mind, you’re much more able to explain it to others." - brooker
"Publishing something forces me to do better. If I’m going to put something out there I’m going to re-read and rework my text/code/ideas more than if I had kept it for myself. (Even if nobody will read your posts, the mere act of putting something out there has this effect I think.)" - jonashietala
