week #6
It’s a long one this week!
/ our week started with 2 days off from school for the daughter. she was already looking forward to a 'whole mommy day', ahwww.
/ after lunch we visited my sister, because the daughter wanted to make a walk with her dog niece. good to talk to my sister, cuddle our niece, play some games and get some fresh air.
/ before dinner we made a quick shopping trip to get a new bathing suit for the daughter. there wasn't one in the whole store in her size. being in the area anyway, we visited the DIY store and I brought home new scindapsus plants for the hangers at the dining table. fingers crossed that they will do better on that spot!
/ my go to breakfast the last few weeks is bread with vegan pepper ham and mustard. hmmm. let's see how long this phase will stick ; )
/ on Tuesday the daughter had a second day off from school. we decided to bring the grandparents a visit. the daughter wanted to go by public transport, so we went by bus. her first time and she loved it!
/ while waiting for the bus the daughter wanted to listen to some music. I didn't bring her headphones, so we put her music on speaker (there was no one around, just cars passing). she's into 'I like to move it move it' now, from the movie Madagascar she watched recently. we had a little dance party at the bus stop : D
/ in the evening I cooked a new to me recipe of mac'n'cheese with vegetables and vegan bacon. it was lovely and another recipe I will keep for the future.
/ Wednesday morning I had my physiotherapy appointment. my new therapist listened to my story and did a physical examination of my knees, foot and leg. he was very thorough with his exam and said he wanted to look for the cause, not just treat the symptoms. it felt like a good approach and gave me a good feeling going forward!
/ the result of the exam: he thinks it's iliotibial band syndrome (runner's knee). he advised me to stop doing any sports for now, to give my knee some rest. no qi gong lessons and no trampoline jumping. then I can find out if the qi gong lessons (with a lot of leg stances and knee bending) are contributing to the pain.
/ the therapist discovered that my ankles tend to turn inwards. so at home I did some research on new shoes and inlay soles, to see what's out there and what the options are.
/ I also found an online physiotherapy subscription, where you can do exercises for specific problems. in the list of injuries there were also exercises for iliotibial band syndrome. so I took a trial subscription and started with the first day of exercises. #cantwaittofixthis
/ Thursday was my first workday of the week. after lunch the pain in my knee slowly started and from 4 till 6 I could almost not stand on my feet anymore. I was in so much pain… ugh.
/ I was so grateful that I didn’t have to bike home that evening. and that we had quick pizza for dinner. I wasn’t able to do anything anymore.
/ the night from Thursday to Friday was not so great. the daughter didn’t sleep good and was warm, and we had to get up several times. eventually I slept with her in her bed and around 05:00 it got clear she was ill with fever. so we got up and I installed her on the couch.
/ on Thursday I already talked to my boss about taking a leave day to stay home and let my knee recover. so this worked well with the daughter being sick. I could stay home and be there for her and have plenty of time to rest too.
/ Friday was a day of - if I had to guess - a maximum of 300 steps made :') I only moved from couch to kitchen to get things for the daughter to support her through her sickness. she slept a lot and we watched a lot of cartoons. thankfully she got a little better around 5 in the evening. and around 7 she was eating the first little bites again.
/ Saturday morning the daughter got up at the same time as me and her energy level was back to normal (
/ for my Saturday shift I taped my knee in hopes this would give some support. during work I felt my knee sometimes, but the uncomfortable feeling didn't add up to real pain. so it worked! this coming period I will do this before every workweek to see if I can heal my knee faster. hope so!
/ the first very early signs of spring were here! there was some sunshine, a bit more warmth and that unique feeling of energy in the air that only spring can bring. the mornings were also slowly getting a bit less dark.
/ I added the first post in a series for my about me page, riding the waves.
/ on Sunday morning we had a long slow breakfast with lit candles and birds on our peanut garlands in the garden.
/ after breakfast we made a walk go the VintedGo pickup point to pick up the daughters new spring jacket. it’s a 3-4km walk and just 40-45 minutes. but good to be outside, breathing some fresh air and trying to keep my knee moving (but not overloading).
/ in the afternoon we celebrated my dad's birthday. we got him a professional pizza cutter. when he unpacked his gift we found out that the blade was broken in the middle. thankfully the webshop we ordered didn't make a problem at all after I contacted them. they immediately sent a new one, wow!
/ I'm always so happy when we get together with the whole family, like with birthdays. it's 'just' sitting in my parents living room with everyone, eating cake, talking, playing with the daughter and our dog niece and having dinner together. something so simple always makes my belly and heart full. and it reminds me of how good it is that everyone is here ♡
/ I almost forgot about it this year, but I finally updated my 2026 page.
