week #14

monday

➜ hooray for the husband turning 40 today! after bringing D to school we drove to Germany to have a lovely breakfast in the city. I got the boss sandwich which was gooood. and I enjoyed my coffee and conversation with the husband. good to be out of the house without the kid for once!

➜ in the cafe we bumped into friends we hadn't seen in a while. they were like us, on the very rare occasion, out without the kids. we talked a bit and made plans to meet up soon. I've missed them! it was so good to see them, even if it was just shortly :D

➜ there was a bit of sunshine, we were out of our usual Monday routine, we had a vacation on the horizon (end of April)... so I was feeling good!

➜ we came home, I put away the grocery delivery, did some admin and then it was already time to pick up D from school. we had a quiet afternoon with doing the laundry and playing, while the husband went on a birthday run with friends: turning 40 - 40km run. they were expecting to get back just before dinner, so we ordered pizza for everyone.

➜ D was riled up and hyper because of the visitors. and because our dinner was a bit later than usual, she was very tired. I put her in bed around 19:45h. after that I started with week 1, day 1 of Dr. Claire's knee recovery plan. I was still waiting for the resistance pull up bands, but I just had 1 exercise I couldn't perform now because of that. some exercises were HARD, because I haven't moved my body like that. but I felt directly that this will make my legs and hips a lot stronger.

➜ I was feeling a bit bummed in the evening because I could feel my left knee aching more and more while walking down the stairs, getting up or bending/squatting. every time I did one of those moves, I felt a sharp stinging behind my patella. I also decided to focus mainly on Dr. Claires exercises 3 times a week (mo - wed - fri) and use the other days for normal hiking and indoor biking. with this second knee that needs recovery, I have to slow down again and first really work on my hips, knees, legs and ankles. I guess I have to take this recovery more serious and not want too much too fast (story of my life). this time I will learn!

➜ with the husband I watched our German reality show and after that I was completely pooped. time to go to bed!

✶ exercise | 38 min knee recovery

tuesday

➜ it was a busy day! I started it with a pilates lesson focussed on my upper body. and after that a recovery hike for 1.5 hours. I've been trying to start my (non rucking) days with weights or resistance bands and a recovery walk after. this seems the best way around to do your training. and the walking after helps with weight loss.

➜ the little morning that was left I spent watching love life, having lunch and quickly clean upstairs, before picking up D from school.

➜ we directly biked to the municipality to pick up D's new ID card, do some errands and give my parents a visit. my mom was sick, but she was able to come down a bit and talk to us.

➜ in the evening I talked to a tattoo artist I've been following, to talk about my plans for my left lower arm. I got a really good vibe from her and she's stoked about my ideas, so that went well! now sleeping on it for a night, and deciding if I'm going with machine tattooing or hand poke.

➜ we ended the day with the season finale of our German reality show.

✶ exercise | 30 min pilates + 1.5 hours hike + 20 min indoor biking

wednesday

➜ ohh it was hard to get up today! ;) my shins had good training yesterday, walking down a steep hill during my walk. a decline of 15%! but the good news: my knees weren't hurting, yeah!

➜ first thing I did in the morning, was send over our tax files to our tax adviser. collecting all the files is something I don't enjoy, but I'm always happy when it's done!

➜ when sending the Ramones birthday song from Youtube to a friend, I came across one of my favorite punk bands from my teens. I listened to their albums again an ohh the nostalgia! if you want to get to know a Dutch punk band from the South, give the heideroosjes a listen! it's one of my favorite things to do every once in a while; listen to the albums that made up my childhood/teens :D

➜ today on the sporty spice program: another walk. it was a really good one! I rushed out of the house without looking at the weather, so I was dressed a bit warm. a lot of lovely sunshine the whole route! I also walked a new to me route along the train tracks. and up a muddy hill, which I love the most! I heard a lot of singing birds and buzzing bees. and a dead cat, ahww :(

➜ on the way back I made a detour to the post office to pick up some Vinted packages. if everything fits I am also ready for our vacation!

➜ when I got home and talked to the husband a bit about my tattoo plans, I decided to just plan! end of June I'm going for my first sitting. soooo excited!!

✶ exercise | 7 km hike

thursday

➜ on Thursday my Easter work week started and it was a busy busy day! we got a lot of flowers delivered to make all the Easter orders with.

➜ every holiday we have to work hard for a few days to get everything done. but we have a great team that can handle it! we didn't have any overtime, yeahhh.

➜ everyone got their own tasks and my task was making bouquet orders and handling the people in the store. I felt energetic and was ready to go!

➜ the husband was at a birthday party in the evening, so I had some time to myself. I planned to make a short round on Vinted and watch some series and go to bed early. but the evening went a little bit different :') I got stuck on Vinted looking for some summer outfits for myself and when I realized I was tired, it was already 22:30, oops!

✶ exercise | rest day

friday

➜ the Friday workday was very similar to Thursday. making Easter arrangements, bouquets and helping customers. at the end of the day I was quite tired and went by the chip shop on the way home. the husband put D in bed already, so we enjoyed our fries on the couch, watching a series. a good way to end the day!

✶ exercise | rest day

saturday

➜ my last Easter work day of this year and last work day of the week. it was raining in the morning again (a lot of rain lately!), so I got soaked again on the bike. but it also dries quite quickly when I'm working and walking around.

➜ we suspected a busy day again, but I guess we had most customers already on Thursday and Friday. I still had enough to do, but the pressure was off now.

➜ after work I was very tired. the business of 3 days came crashing, so the evening was quiet. watching a German reality show and going to bed on time.

➜ my boss gave me a little Easter gift, which was very nice unexpected!

➜ in the evening I did my Dr. Claire exercises: phase 1, week 1, day 3! my resistance pull up bands were delivered yesterday, so I could also do the exercises with the bands now. it really feels like my knees are improving a lot! they can handle a lot more. so happy about that!

✶ exercise | dr. Claire • phase 1, week 1, day 3

sunday

➜ our Sunday started with no alarm and sleeping until 7. we had a slow morning with breakfast and playing at the table.

➜ around 9 I went rucking with the 4kg weighted vest. the start was not sore, but my ankles and legs had to adjust a bit. after 30 minutes it was a great walk!

➜ when I got home, I ordered a heavier weighted vest, 10 kg. with the one I have now, I want to build up with 6 and 8 kg the next weeks. until I can hold the 10kg. I will have the current vest if I want to have 'lighter' walks and the 10kg for the more intense cardio walks. it's something I am enjoying so much! and my body is also adjusting to it in a great way.

➜ the only thing on my mind the last weeks is sports :') I have been making plans in my head about how I'm going to survive the next autumn and winter period (if the weather is too bad for outside walking). I found a gym nearby that has a stairmaster and where I can do inclined walks on the treadmill. and they have 6 months subscriptions, so that would be ideal! thinking of that being my backup plan to keep moving. let's see!

➜ after lunch, we drove to my parents to celebrate Easter. even though we are all not into the church part of it anymore, we do like to keep traditions alive. D searched for Easter eggs in the garden and we had pie and a lovely (take out) dinner.

➜ in Germany, the Easter bunny also hides a small gift for children. so this year D got something as well. she was soooo excited for it! she had been asking about it for weeks (since Christmas) and we kept telling her to put it on the list for the next holiday season or her birthday. so she was over the moon when she got her Paw Patrol Skye helicopter that saves kitties, hehe!

➜ we ordered Chinese take out and it tasted delicious. Chinese food is not always my first pick, because I also have times where I feel bad the day after. but this time it was great. good to see and talk to the whole family again!

➜ we were home again around 20:30, and after putting D in bed I directly went to the attic to do 30 min strength training. one more episode of our German reality show and off to bed. I was soooo tired!

✶ exercise | 30 min strength training
