this was may
Oops, my last monthly recap is from February. I took some time off from the internet, and that also meant my blog. But I want to try to update more often again. So here is my recap from May!
The first days of May we were still on our Spring holiday in Turkey. We had a great time and great weather and spent most of our time at the beach or pool. The hotel we stayed at was really nice, I enjoyed the food so much, I even managed to keep my sports schedule and D made a friend and said she wants to go back next year!
It was the month that I turned 41. And as the husband said: 'you're getting closer to 50 now' ;) Yep, closer to 50 than 30! But I'm not sad about that. I feel privileged I am able to get older.
May was also the month that I got 'insta fatigue' ;) I was only on there for sports things. I follow several professionals and that's also how I found Dr. Claire that helped me with my knee recovery and Cheryl for my lifting training. It can be very helpful with your sports journey, but there's also so many people that are influencers and give wrong information. Sometimes it's hard to see if information is correct and helpful. And there's so many (conflicting) things on there, an overload on information on the subject... that I got insta fatigue and decided I'm taking a break from it again.
may in highlights
✶ swimming lessonsIn April D started swimming lessons. She's going on Saturdays with her dad, when I'm working. At home she always tells me what they did. She learned how to swim in a very cute way. The movements are called 'frog', 'airplane' and 'pencil'. Like almost all kids, she had to overcome some things in the lessons, like having her eyes open under water and jumping of the edge of the pool without help. But she managed to do them and she's so proud of herself! It's great to see her get confidence in herself from this!
✶ pool days
This May we had the first heatwave of the year! One week with 30+ degrees weather and thankfully some of those days we were all free from work and school. So we decided to spend some days at the outdoor pool. It was lovely to cool off in the water and read a book on my towel in the grass.
✶ lifting with ceecee
This one I also started in April, the lift 'n burn challenge from Cheryl Coulombe. Three times a week I followed her program and started to slowly see results. I loved doing it! Even though I'm still in her first challenge (and a bit behind), I already signed up for her new one. I'm learning a lot about lifting, moves and how to hold my body. And I feel like I'm getting stronger from it, which makes life in general easier.
✶ ruck training
My rucking training was still going strong! I bought a new vest with 5kg weight that is not adjustable. Because May was the month that I found out that adding more weight (above 5kg) doesn't have more positive benefits anymore for me (right now). More weight makes my hikes slower, which makes me walk in zone 1 instead of zone 2. For my training I want to be in zone 2, so I decided to keep my rucks at 5kg.
✶ keeping motivated
Since starting with training in March, I didn't have any problems keeping motivated to do sports (almost) daily. I love lifting and rucking a lot! In the first weeks I lost 6 kilograms, so that keeps you motivated! But at the end of May, my stomach started bloating again. Something I didn't experience since a long time. I used to have this before somewhat more regularly, but not for months now. The scale not moving anymore and a bloated stomach put a little dent in my motivation. I could've quit everything then, but I decided it's not something that I want to have such a big impact. I'm doing so great so far in showing up for myself and training, it would be sad to let this little setback keep me from going on. So I tried different things to get back on track...
✶ food changes
My bloated tummy needed attention so I tried several things to make me feel better in my body. I added chia seeds and flax seeds to my skyr yoghurt. And I added kefir. I also started drinking ginger tea and peppermint tea in the evenings. And so far this is helping with the bloating!
details worth remembering
✏ the husband ran a 100KM trail run again. so proud he's still able to do this!✏ we celebrated Mother's Day and had a very busy workweek because of that.
✏ we went to a trödelmarkt in Germany and found some Playmobil from the 80s for D (so cool!).
✏ I made a new sports routine that hopefully helps with motivation.
✏ I had a call with a tattooer about my possible (half) arm sleeve!
✏ I was still contemplating on getting a rucking rucksack, with weight on the back. I'm happy with my vest for now, but want to look into a rucksack and see if that works for me. the only thing holding me back is the price...
✏ news in the music department: I switched from Tidal to Apple Music.
✏ it was the first month in a long time that I didn't buy anything on Vinted.
✏ I installed the retro app again! it's lovely to be back and share my life in pictures with friends again.
✏ in April I cut my hair very short to get the red dye out. I wanted to see my real hair color and maybe even stop coloring completely. I lasted 7 weeks until I dyed it again. now it's light brown with an orange shine. let's see how long I will keep it like this... ;) thinking about dying with henna maybe?
