just some thoughts about music
A blog post for jotting down the thoughts that come into my head while listening to music. No story, just very random thoughts.
Because that's what music seems to do for me. Some music, at least. It makes my mind wander and the pictures or thoughts pop up.
Musical taste and preference is so personal. Every person in the world likes their own mix of styles. And I love that!
All the genres of music, all instruments, every melody or beat, can provide a different feeling.
Now that I'm getting a bit older (I'm 40 now), I also feel like the music I'm listening to the most, is changing. As a teen and adolescent, I listened mostly to bands. The louder the better ; ) I still like the same music as I did back then. But I feel like the need to listen to the louder music styles is ebbing away.
My listening taste is getting softer (and maybe I am too?). The music I like listening to the most now, is music that takes me away in my head. That makes me daydream. That is either (modern) classical and electronic music. Or a mix of electronic and instruments.
It's very hard to explain, what this kind of music does for me. And I don't know if other people have this too. But the electronic beat that makes for a steady rhythm, combined with melodies that float, just make my head instantly wander. It gives me a feeling of space. It's something no other genre of music has the power to do...
Which makes me wonder. I know people that just listen to music 'that is made with 'real' instruments'. They don't like electronic music, because in their eyes this is 'not real music'. Do they know the feeling I described above? Does music without the use of electronic instruments gives them the same feelings? Or do they just not experience music in that way?
If not, they are missing out! To me, putting on my electronic playlist for just 15 minutes, feels like I had a hot bath, did a long meditation and made a walk in the forest.
