end of the month update
hiii, May has ended and it's time for another update!
some things I have been doing, reading, seeing lately...

➜ I started 2 weeks ago with my (daily) walking challenge and have tracked 9 walks so far. I was very motivated to add extra walks during the week so that I would go outside almost daily. but life and my schedule (work, other exercises, more days off from school for D) just didn't really allow more walking. so I'm happy with what I can do for now! but I will still try to add more walks in the future...
➜ I watched the hilarious comedy ladies first, where Sacha Baron Cohen lives in a parallel reality where women act like misogynist men.
➜ the last week of May I blew out 41 candles on my birthday cake. the husband already joked that I'm officially on the way to 50 now ;) and it's no fun at all, but with more age come more health issues...
➜ one of the changes in the health department: now that my knee is fixed, a new problem has occurred. it seems that my wrist has Guervain’s tendonitis. during sports, at work and at night I started wearing a brace to protect my wrist. that helps to calm it down. but working as a florist easily triggers overload and pain. my hypermobile joints seem to cause more and more problems. I'm starting hand therapy in July (there's a long waitlist) and hope I can cope until then.
➜ my exercise routine has so far made me lose 6kg. I went a clothing size down and was doing really great. but the last 2 weeks I have been noticing a change. my belly started bloating (something I had in the past sometimes), and I haven't found the reason why so far. it's frustrating, because it feels like a step back. I'm going to try some things to see if they help with the bloating; adding chia seeds or ground flax seeds to my breakfast skyr and drinking a spicy ginger tea every evening. let's hope for the best!
➜ if the changes don't work, I'm thinking about consulting a dietitian to see if I can find out if I have food intolerances or other things that make my tummy bloat. but I hope I don't have to.
➜ it was the first May ever that we got a heatwave with temperatures above 30 degrees for a couple of days. we went from 2 weeks with daily rain to heatwave summer days. one day I was still hiking in a jacket walking through mud and the next sweating in the sun. on my birthday it was also 30+ degrees, and luckily for us we all had a day off, that we spent at the outdoor swimming pool!
➜ it's already 7 weeks ago that I cut my hair (even) short(er). I wanted to get it very short to let the hair dye go out. I was sick of the red all of a sudden and wanted to see what my real color is like - or how gray I am is more like it ;) I like the haircut on most days, but it's not really 'me' yet. thinking of getting it cut a bit different next time. oh and the 'seeing what my natural hair looks like now' plan already tanked, because I colored it this morning! I hoped for a softer orange color, but it turned out even darker than the red before... let's see what I do with that.
➜ June has started and since the heatwave we've had more rainy days than dry days. good for hay fever and plants, but I'm also looking forward to the 20-25 degrees days with sun!
➜ this week I had a unexpected migraine, thank god I don't have them often anymore... every time I have one, I'm trying to find out what triggered it, but it's very hard to find out. I didn't feel stressy, there was no heatwave... maybe it was the air pressure before the thunderstorm? I spent a whole day sleeping and taking meds that didn't work.
➜ I switched from tidal to apple music (sorry tidal!). I really wanted to love tidal, but after 3 months of using it I just had too many frustrations... it was easy to connect it to our music boxes at home and I could just walk around with my phone in my pocket without losing the connection. but, it also had a lot of times where it started buffering and I couldn't listen anymore, at home and on the road. that frustrated me SO MUCH after a while, that I had to switch. apple music connects through bluetooth, so while listening I need my phone close. but that's the only minor thing. otherwise very happy!
➜ the tattoo artist had my design ready this week and we had a call to talk about it. I was very happy with it! she really made what I asked for in her style :) we just made one small adjustment with the inner flowers and I had one part I was unsure about. but we will look at that the day of tattooing. just 2 more weeks and it's go time! yeah!
➜ since starting with lifting I have been going on Insta a bit more again to read up about how to do it the best way with exercising and food. but after some weeks of reading a lot, I got info fatigue :') you can probably relate when I say there's so many people on there that have their own ideas about what is 'good'. some people are certified trainers with years of experience and others are sporty influencers that just want to earn money from their programs or supplements. it's so much info from so many people that I got tired of it completely. I tried to just follow people that know their stuff from experience and let go off all the rest. but it's hard to filter 'the good ones' out sometimes. I'm done with insta again for a while :')
➜ oh and talking about social media... insta I used for sporty things only and got rid of it again. so I'm back to no social media apps. the only one I reinstalled now is the app retro. I used retro for some years to share pictures with friends, but deleted it when I deleted all my other social apps. now that I've reinstalled, I see how much I've missed sharing with friends. little life updates about the things we do and experience and sharing tips with each other. it feels a lot more genuine and slow and not distracting. if you are also on the app and want to share pics, you can write me a message and I will send you my username (mailformrmr@proton.me).
➜ I should really update my 2026 watch list!
