are we afraid of color?
On December 4th, Pantone revealed their 2026 color of the year. The color is called Cloud Dancer. Since then, the internet has RESPONDED. And I have to say, I also have some strong feelings about it...
Some people might say, what are you worked up about? But to me, this is not just a color pick by Pantone. It says so much about how society nowadays is perceived.
these are the Pantone colors of the last years
Pantone calls the color Cloud Dancer a soft billowy white. I would call it a rather dull, bland, cold, grayish-white color.
And I have to agree with interior designer Sam: 'it's giving me shades of dishwater' & 'it's another non-color'.
She also wrote: 'it's 2025, we lived through a pandemic, rising costs, rising stress... and THIS is the color they think we need?'
I see it everywhere around me... the world is getting more and more bland. The colors black, gray, white and beige dominate most clothing in clothing stores. Interior design programs are a mix of different shades of soft beige and gray. Where did all the colors go?!
Personally, I find it a little scary. It seems fewer people deviate from the boring beige norm and no longer dare to express themselves. Color choices are getting more safe, less exciting, not outspoken. I am seriously concerned that color will no longer be appreciated because we have collectively forgotten its value.
It makes me want to be extra bold and colorful in my approach to life. My motto for 2026! Who's with me? ; )
*says the girl with the minimalistic black and white blog, hehehe
